
Laurie Thomas
Ms. Laurie Thomas is an instructor with The University of Findlay, an academic partner of the RDPC.
Ms. Thomas has served in conservation law enforcement as well as with a municipal police department. She worked for the State of Ohio as chief park officer of East Harbor State Park. In this job function, she supervised a law enforcement staff providing services to over a million visitors each year. Her work included supervising safety and security functions of the multi-use waterfront areas, developing and implementing emergency plans, and interfacing with the United States Coast Guard on spill responses and emergency situations. Ms. Thomas also worked as a reserve police officer for the Sandusky (OH) Police Department, one of Ohio’s deepwater ports.
After retiring from the State of Ohio, Ms. Thomas was an instructor with the Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration’s first airport security personnel deployment, the largest civilian training initiative since World War II. She joined the curriculum design staff at The University of Findlay’s Center for Terrorism Preparedness (CTP) in 2003.
