AWR-209-W: Working with the Media: A Course for Rural First Responders

Course Description

The purpose of the self-paced, web-based (7 contact hour) AWR-209-W: Working with the Media: A Course for Rural First Responders course is to provide rural first responders with skills needed to communicate with the public through the media. This course examines roles of the media and the rural first responder/public information officer. Participants learn how to give print/electronic media interviews, write news releases, provide information at the scene, and how they fit into the joint information system. This course was originally adapted from FEMA’s IG-290 curriculum. Use this Link to Register for AWR 209-W  

Course Prerequisites

*Participant must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign national approved by DHS. Recommended (not required): IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS), and IS-700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
